Mecklenburg’s ice-breaker resembles the ice-breaker on Schlieffen. Compared with other Tier X German battleships, Mecklenburg has lighter armor, making her more vulnerable to low caliber shell penetrations upon impacting her armor belt, despite a similar shell impact resulting in a non-penetration had it impacted Grosser Kurfürst or Preussen. Mecklenburg has a large superstructure protected by only 19 mm of armor, making deck structures an easy target for enemy destroyers and lightly armed cruisers. However, the fore, aft, and stern decks only have 32 mm armor plating, possibly leaving the citadel vulnerable to plunging shells of at least 460 mm caliber, which are capable of overmatching that armor. No incoming shells are capable of overmatching the lower hull armor affixed to the bow. Additionally, Mecklenburg has 32 mm of fore and aft end-plating along with a 70 mm thick ice-breaker along the waterline. Mecklenburg has a belt of 50 mm deck armor amidships to protect against plunging fire and low caliber shells. She has a turtleback armor layout, initially consisting of a 350 mm belt of armor along the waterline, serving to protect the citadel from incoming fire at most angles and ranges. Mecklenburg is a heavily armored battleship not atypical from other German ships of the type. She also has a main armament consisting of sixteen 305 mm naval rifles with high sigma and battlecruiser dispersion, along with close-range torpedoes for self-defense. However, Mecklenburg is distinguished by her speed, resulting from the inclusion of a powerful propulsion system. Mecklenburg is a Tier X battleship sharing many similarities with Friedrich der Grosse and Brandenburg.
